G'day to you all out there, how's your week going?Been a quiet week, what with winter setting in and the weather closing up. Bloody cool, that's for sure. Heading to Wellies in a couple of weeks to pick up a couple of bikes, I've got another 750 F1 and a BMW R Nine T Pure arriving soon, so if anyone is interested in a classic restoration ( the Ducati), or a cool custom ( The BMW), give me a shout. Looking forward to getting back into some restoration work and some custom work. It's been a long few months without any work to do. Our Bonneville expedition is taking shape along nicely, at this stage we've penned in 2022, but who knows what the fuck is going to happen over the next couple of years, but we need a goal to aim for so 2022 it is. The Dyno that we are going to use to test bed the engines will be heading to Wellington in a couple of weeks, and the first engine ( for the margarita machine) has arrived. priorities right? Had a lot of comments about the Guzzi and BMW images in the blog. Well it's like this, I own both and to me they define the look of the Cafe racer, as do Ducati. We've had long discussions about how back in the early 70's when Japan just came out of the blue and smashed the British industry into last century, and the Japanese held that reign for a good many a year, then the Euro's came out and started making bikes that actually worked. No one wanted to buy a Euro in the start, they just weren't that reliable, but slowly and surely they started making bikes that not only looked fantastic, but actually would last a ride. Now days the Euros have it all over the Japanese, who seem to persist in building great reliable motorcycles but with no sole. The Euros have got the styling, got the power, got the reliability and have spades of sole. I look at all the current ranges of Japanese bikes and there isn't 1 bike in there that I would go "shit I want that". And don't get me started on the latest iteration of the Katana ugghhh. The new Honda Fire blade is getting there, but the rest, well they just don't cut it. I look at all the bikes on the last Lizards ride and there was 3 Japanese motorcycles in the mix out of about 20. Just three. Now if that was in the late 80's it would have been the other way around. So this blog mainly caters to European motorcycles and helps perpetuate the line that European bikes are just better. I hope that the Japanese will one day see this and do something about that, because from their history they have built some pretty stonking motorcycles that changed not only my world, but yours as well I would wager.
