Sunday 7 June 2020

Sunday morning, a wee bit late for the blog I know, should have done it on Friday night for your weekend viewing, but I didn't. It's been a busy old week that's for sure, particularly after the small announcement of the trip to Bonneville in 2022. It's amazing the amount of calls from people wanting to assist, and to offer great ideas for the trip. To be honest, we are still trying to work through the rules and regulations to see which class we will actually run in. But we are getting close. From small acorns do big trees grow is the saying. Finally got the bike cleaned from last weeks ride that took about 4 hours and several washes to get the thing looking new again, but she looks mint mint mint now. All my gear is washed and dried, That took all week haha. We managed 1300 kilometers for the ride in 3 days of absolute pissing down rain, no offs which is always good too. There are some images sprinkled through this weeks blog of the ride.I have to say I was a little nervous about the BMW as it's not really the correct type of bike for that type of ride, but it was a pure pleasure, the Heli bar conversion has transformed the bike into a very comfortable ride. The same can't be said for the tail tidy which looks good but doesn't stop the mud and shit being flung up your back, you live and learn I suppose. I wont be taking the BMW out in the wet again. The Guzzi is nearly ready, and that will become my touring motorcycle. So here we are a week away from alert level 1 and nearly ready to reclaim the day as free citizens, looking forward to that. So enough blah blah, here we go again.

Love the paint on this BMW

 Yeah, Nah

On a late hazy night in Martinborough, had a great meal, meet up with some old friends from Wellington, which was an unexpected surprise, good night

breakfast, no one wanted to get up and leave because that would mean we were going to get really wet.

Not my cup of tea, but still I understand the bike and it's pretty cool
Only the Italians eh?

Not much left to that tyre, this bike could wheelstand for miles it has to be said, a pure pleasure to see bikes on their back wheels at speed
Road food, one of the small pleasures of an away trip

It was the anniversary of Roberts passing this weekend just gone, hard to believe really
Somewhere out the back of Napier, getting our bearings

Dinner time, the lads kicked off with a great roast, and plenty of Bourbon

The mix of bikes in the crew is pretty diverse, but they all seem to do it well.

Breakfast, the meal of the day to set you up for hours and hours of rain, slides, gravel, cow shit, and misted up visors.

Pretty pretty motorcycle.

I priced this exhaust system out about $1800 from Europe, but $1300 from China, made by the same people just with fewer margins added.

The girl guide camp we stayed at somewhere near Rissington? Who knew that Rissington even existed

Road food at its very best

This made me laugh

A highly underrated Ducati, still pretty cheap, but for how much longer?

The Lizards finally met on the side of the road.

A dark and wet night

I wonder if he's got his......wait for it.....log book up to date

Well that's about all there is this week, hope you enjoyed it. remember to spread and share and enjoy. Over the next few weeks we will be putting up another blog or FB page outlining the Bonneville speed attempt, so keep your eyes open for that. Enjoy.
