Monday 1 June 2020

Well I opened my email this morning to lots of questions about how and why the blog didn't come out this weekend. I was away on a Lizard ride and I didn't want to telegraph that fact that I would not be at home this weekend just gone. Plus I needed to work on a few things while away with the Lizards before putting this out.
Well, I will be the first to admit that pushing the submit button this morning is making me nervous. It's a big thing, with a lot of people involved, and the idea of this is quite monumental, so please bear with me. OK then, where to begin, so I'll guess right at the start. Over the past couple of months an idea has been formulating, evolving and growing, it was an idea that just seemed to get bigger and more developed. The more lizards that got to know of this idea, and as that idea was discussed out in the open, well it was like it was beginning to take on a life of its own. You see in this group affectionately know as the Lizards, there are some very real and talented people who know and who have experienced things that are part of motorcycling legend. We have engineers and mechanics who have spannered and tuned for some of the biggest names in our sport, we have riders who have acquitted themselves on the international stage to the point where their names will live forever in the annuls of racing history. There are clever engineers who have toiled away in sheds and workshops late into the nights making things, that just make you shake your heads in wonderment at their seemingly limitless talents to bend, fold, turn, and shape metal into objects of art and all for the goal of more speed. We could not say anything to anyone as we needed to discuss this with the entire group. So here is this room full of these talented people, and all it turns out, are willing and prepared to take on another great adventure. So I can announce right now, that the Lizards are going to Bonneville in 2022. We are going to have a crack at a land speed record. We have a rider ( who was saying yes even before I had to finish rationalizing the idea to him), we have the engineers, we have the abilities to actually make this happen. Another Kiwi attempt at Bonneville. They say it's the land of dreams at Bonneville, well lets see if we can make that dream a reality. Lets see where this thing takes us.

Old motorcycle shops, there's not too many of these left now.
